Canon Maxify MB5460
The Canon Maxify MB 5460 is an upgrade of the MB 5360, this printer in its two versions has been around for about three years now and has proven to be a reliable and cheaper alternative to many of the lasers running similar sized cartridges. In the XL version of cartridges this machine runs a 2500 page black and 3 1500 page colour cartridges. A full set of Genuine cartridges costs $195.00, this is significantly cheaper than some comparable lasers that cost over $600.00 for a set of cartridges.
This machine features 2 paper trays and has print / copy / duplex scan / fax functions. The machine is designed to print economically and quickly, it has the ability to print wirelessly and also has mobile Device Printing. The only real draw back is that it is not designed to print in high resolution so will not print photos.
At $277.00 it is an economic alternative to colour lasers of a similar size and is highly recommended for an office environment or a busy home.
Canon TS 9160
This is the higher quality print machine with multifunction. This machine features a print quality of 9600 x 9600 megapixels which makes it suitable for printing of photos at home. It has an extra cartridge which is a photo blue ink that is used to create better quality photos. This machine also has the ability to print onto discs and has a card slot. It is equipped with the other standard canon technology such as air print and mobile device printing. Cartridges for this machine come in three sizes – standard, XL and XXL.
This unit is priced at $185.00 and Genuine Canon XXL cartridges are $38.50 each, compatible cartridges are available for $25 each. The machine comes in both red and grey. Suitable for someone to use for both home printing and also photo or high quality print jobs.
Brother MFC – 2710W
This is the entry level mono multifunction unit in the small business range from Brother. It is a mono laser meaning it runs on a single cartridge and uses a powder which is baked onto the paper, there is no ink involved with this machine. The unit has print (duplex) / copy / scan / fax functions. As its name implies the “W” stands for wireless so can be connected either wireless or with the standard USB cable.
The cartridge for this machine is a 3000 page cartridge and is available in both Genuine or a generic version – both have proven to be reliable. The genuine cartridge will cost $141.00 and a generic around $95.00. Because this machine has a Fax function it has a 50 sheet ADF which allows you to copy documents by placing the whole document into the ADF and pressing one button. Brother are a reliable and cost effective option for small business. With the print speed of 30 pages per minute it is adequate for most jobs.
Brother HL-L2300D
The Brother HL 2300D is a laser mono printer – this means you can not print in colour. It is only a printer - no scan or copy function. This machine also does not have wireless connection. It is made to print cheaply with reasonable quality and speed. It uses a 2600 page cartridge which retails for $75 (compatible) or $146 (Genuine).
This machine is a reliable, cost effective machine that has basic features and is ideal for printing A4 invoices or printing documents. This machine is in stock and retails for $128.00. Ideal to reduce the costs of home printing.
Canon iX6860
The IX 6860 is an A3 print only inkjet usually used by those who want to print out plan drawings or A3 posters. As it can not scan or copy it is not suitable for use as a general purpose home printer but is an economical alternative to the very expensive A3 colour lasers. One of its advantages is that it is one of the last printers that still uses the 650 / 651 cartridges so refills and compatibles are available for this machine at $20 for the large black and $15 each for the colours.
